Leading online marketplaces gear up to celebrate Women’s Day

Leading ecommerce companies are gearing up for International Women’s Day which is celebrated on 8th March, with special offerings for Women online sellers, buyers and employees. Amazon kicked off by announcing ‘Women Only delivery hubs.’ So what are the other online marketplaces getting up to?
Snapdeal has a lot planned for its women employees and sellers. The company has lined up sessions on counselling and mentoring. It has also tied up with Urban Clap to provide services like hand reflexology, head massages and the like.
For its women sellers, Snapdeal is associating with FICCI Ladies Organization (the women’s wing of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry), to conduct workshops for women empowerment.
The company has also opened a new store for its female shoppers. Apart from the regular items on sale, the store also has two dedicated sections called ‘Donate some love’, where shoppers can donate to two women’s organizations and ‘Gifting ideas’ where shoppers can pick up gifts for the women in their life.
Paytm is giving women entrepreneurs  a chance to directly interact with its senior management.
“We have successfully built a merchant-preferred platform where there are no direct or surrogate inventory models. We have seen a lot of women entrepreneurs register on our platform and take keen interest in participating in the online growth story,” said Sudhanshu Gupta, vice president of Paytm.
Shopclues, which celebrates Women’s day each year, says it will organize self defence workshops, health sessions, movie passes and other treats for its female employees.

Empowering Women

We hope that these schemes are long-term plans and not just sops for a day or two. Some of the initiatives are quite helpful and should aid women entrepreneurs in taking solid steps towards financial autonomy. Hopefully, these programs will also encourage more women to join the brigade of online sellers.
