Hold your horses! No, Flipkart and Amazon are not merging. However, according to this news report, it seems that both the ecommerce biggies had discussed a possible sales & acquisition deal behind closed doors.
The talks failed. But yes, the rivals were contemplating to join hands.
According to the sources:
- Talks between Flipkart and Amazon were on until last quarter of 2015
- It failed at the initial stage itself as $8bn offer made by Amazon was considered too low
Biggest question: Flipkart won’t fly solo for long?
While the talks with Amazon may or may not have happened or failed, rumours of Flipkart partnering with other ecommerce players refuses to die down. Take for instance, Alibaba and Flipkart deal.
It was earlier reported that ecommerce global giant Alibaba is planning to invest in Flipkart. The Chinese ecommerce leader has already invested in Paytm andSnapdeal. There is talk of the two joining hands.
Experts think that Flipkart won’t march ahead on its own for long and is most likely to collaborate with some player to take on Amazon. It is believed that Alibaba, Paytm, Snapdeal and Flipkart will join forces to dethrone the American etailer, Amazon.
Meanwhile, Amazon has put on the blinkers
The US-based online marketplace is not new to this. After all, the Alibaba and Amazon war goes long back.
Amazon is focusing on strengthening its hold on the Indian ecommerce market, while other players are busy hatching a plan to defeat it.
How?
- By designing a global delivery network to compete with Alibaba
- By localizing its strategy tailor-made for Indian buyers & sellers
- By investing in India and creating employment opportunities
- By breaking stereotypes
- By empowering sellers
Is it working?
Yes! Amazon recently earned the title of India’s most trusted online shopping brand and is one of the favourite marketplaces of online buyers. The etailer has highest traffic ranking and is India’s Buzziest Brand as well.
For now it is Amazon VS others. Who will win? Do you think Flipkart will tie-up with another player or will it continue to operate independently? Will Amazon India’s dream run continue or will Alibaba’s dream come true?
