Mumbai: Amazon.in launched its third largest Fulfilment Centre (FC) in the country in Maharashtra today, expanding its infrastructure footprint in the state. The centre is intended to help the e-commerce giant to enhance its capabilities ahead of the festive season.
The new centre located near Bhiwandi, has added over 1.5 million cubic feet of storage space and will support faster deliveries of orders within the region and neighboring states, the company said.
Hyderabad hosts the company's largest Fulfilment Centre followed by Bengaluru.
With this infrastructure, the company's storage capacity is pegged at over 6 million cubic feet across 14 fulfilment centres in Maharashtra. A t the end of 2019 it will have over 50 fulfilment centres in 13 states across the country with a combined storage space of 25 million cubic feet, the company said.
Commenting on the launch, Akhil Saxena, Vice President, India Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India, said, “We are excited to launch Maharashtra’s largest Fulfilment Centre. The new infrastructure will enable us to serve our customers better, and will further help us support small & medium businesses in the region to fulfil their customer orders seamlessly. Our deep investments in the state will also create thousands of opportunities for employment. We will create close to 2000 direct and indirect job opportunities over the next year in this new fulfillment center.”
The company has over 7000 sellers in the state. The top categories of sales include smart phones, large appliances, fashion, consumer electronics and consumables.
