For long, the power of online retail was underestimated. With the rise of fashion ecommerce, designers and reputed fashion labels are finally taking notice of the online retail scene in India. This is making etailers very happy, as more fashion sales means more money.
Big etailers collaborate with over 150 designers to sell exclusive lines online
As per this ETRetail report, ecommerce players such as Amazon, FashionAndYou,Indianroots, Myntra, and Snapdeal have partnered with nearly 150 fashion designers to showcase exclusive designer wear on their online platform.
While Amazon India has managed to rope in 20 designers on its Amazon Fashion Store, Snapdeal has grabbed 40 creators including famous names like Manish Arora and Malini Ramani. Myntra on the other hand is focusing on grooming budding designers in exchange of exclusive & unique fashion collection.
Win-Win Situation
The arrangement between online marketplaces and fashion designers is turning out to be a profitable endeavor. Buyers’ interest in getting hands on affordable discounted designer wear results in high sales for etailers.
Speaking about the same, Rahul Taneja, VP- category management at Snapdeal said, “Designers are working with us closely to bring special assortment which is affordable by a larger audience.”
As for designers, they admit that business via online platform is far more consistent as compared to seasonal sales through their own stores.
Mariam Khan, owner of label ‘La Patiala stated, “The stores are performing well, but demand is high only during season since we cater to traditional wears. But online, I have seen that it sells throughout the year.”
British retailer Marks & Spencer will also sell on Flipkart and Myntra
Speaking of exclusive deals, Marks & Spencer has entered an agreement with Flipkart to sell its products on the etailer’s platforms – Flipkart & Myntra.
The British multinational retailer already has its own online site. However, the retail brand wishes to explore Flipkart and Myntra’s popularity and reach more people.
While talking about this exclusive deal, Venu Nair, MD of Marks & Spencer, India revealed, “This new arrangement enables us to extend the reach of our brand to even more customers across the country. Over the next few months we’ll be bringing even more of our popular product ranges to the sites.”
In a similar fashion, Indian retail biggie Shoppers Stop had partnered with Snapdeal in August this year. As we can see, the online fashion business is getting more serious and competitive.
