Flipkart’s Big Billion Day 2015 (BBD) announcement has shocked people for 2 reasons: A) It’s not ‘day’ but ‘days’ this time as the sale will run for 5 days and B) It’s app-only!
Needless to say, the ecommerce company is experimenting and getting creative with their marketing strategies to woo millions of online shoppers and make this event a hit. According to this Economic Times report, Flipkart has sent half-a-million (5 lakh) postcards to its users through traditional snail mail informing & inviting them for Big Billion Day Sale.
Personal connect
The Flipkart honchos felt in today’s digital world, personal connect is missing. So to establish that they decided to rely on India Post’s services and deliver cards to its users across the country, right from Rajasthan, Port Blair, Srinagar to Kargil.
Speaking about this move, Mausam Bhatt, Senior Director-Growth at Flipkart revealed, “In today’s world, a lot of communication is moving online, so we said how do we create a personal connect with our consumers?”
Reaching out to more customers
Last year’s BBD was filled with issues related to technical malfunction, customer service and supply chain breakdown. Therefore, all eyes are on BBD 2015 to see if Flipkart manages to pull through without any glitch. More so, because it’s app only and for 5 days!
Justifying its app-only sale, Bhatt said, “It’s very relevant for us to reach out to these consumers through the app because lot of these smaller towns don’t have too many desktops or good broadband connections. They are not only coming on to the Internet via smartphones, but they actually come on to the Internet via Whatsapp and Facebook app. It’s a very natural way for lot of these people to also do commerce via app.”
The effort to reach out to its users residing in remote areas through postcards reflects the etailer’s zeal to make BBD 2015 a success. We hope it pays off.
