Akshaya Patra to auction Amazon's items to fund girl children

BENGALURU: The Akshaya Patra Foundation (APF) on Thursday conducted an open auction of 30 items donated by Amazon India at an event in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The two organisations came together to raise funds for the cause of girl child, and the Foundation will conduct some more auction in the coming days.

Amazon India's house-on-wheels visited 13 cities in 25 days showcasing about 600 items. Amazon's donation to the Foundation included products from startups, women entrepreneurs, traditional handicrafts, and hand looms.

Most of the products in the auction were traditional handicrafts such as traditional Rogan art painting from Gujarat, Dokhra art from Chhatthisgarh, Brass and marble from showpieces from Uttar Pradesh, Tanjore paintings from Tamil Nadu and more, Amazon India said in a press release.

Of the donated products, grocery products will become a part of the Foundation’s kitchens, which prepare food for school children. Other products will be auctioned among employees and donors to raise additional funds for the mid-day meal program in girls' schools, among the others, the press release added.
