Amazon launches 2nd FC in UP; Six weeks till the set-up of 4 more

After the launch of its 5th customer service facility, Amazon announced the launch of its 2nd fulfilment centre (FC) in Uttar Pradesh and 37th in the whole country.

New FC features:

  • Spread over approximately 50,000 square feet
  • Storage space 35,000 cubic feet
  • Meant to empower small and medium businesses
  • Meant to reach more customers
The vice president of India customer fulfilment at Amazon India, Akhil Saxena said, “In line with our vision to transform the way India buys and sells, we have been consistently investing in enhancing our capabilities to provide a superior experience to both – buyers and sellers. With the launch of a second Fulfilment Centre in Uttar Pradesh, we strongly believe that we will be able to better serve our customers and also support our Prime promise of one-day & two-day delivery,”
With two fulfilment centres in UP, Amazon offers around 150,000 cubic feet of storage space that will enable faster delivery in the state.
“Furthermore, for our sellers, the new FC will enable thousands of small and medium businesses to save money by replacing their upfront capital expense with low variable cost and pay only for the storage space they use and the orders that we fulfil,” he added.
In the next six weeks, the etailers is going to launch 4 more fulfilment centres in the country. This will give the etailer 13 million cubic feet, it said. The ecommerce company made a $600 million investment since January 2017, in its Indian ecommerce and most of this amount has gone towards the set up of warehouses.
Amazon has also taken the initiative to expand its ‘I have Space’ programme to assist its delivery channels. And, its partnership with Kirana stores is paying off too with 10% cost reductions every year.
