Snapdeal to give refunds to customers within an hour

Customers are turning to on-line buying due to convenience in purchasing anything, from anywhere and avoiding long queues as the products are delivered to the doorstep. Hassle free return policies are also desirable. Etailers are losing money due to returned goods and some have decided to change their return policies. Snapdeal however has decided to take a different perspective to the returning of items.
Giving a major boost to customer service, ecommerce marketplace giant Snapdeal launched an innovative scheme that will see its customers get an instant refund within an hour of returning an unwanted product.
This will be carried out by utilising an automated technology and creating synergy with a private Indian bank to facilitate the transfer through the Immediate Payment Systems (IMPS) transfers, which are available at Indian banks.
  • All Cash On Delivery customers will have access to IMPS 24/7.
  • The service will also be available on bank holidays.
  • Different channels including mobile phones and PC’s, can be used to carry out the IMPS transactions
Commenting on the new development, Anand Chandrasekaran, Chief Product Officer at Snapdeal said, “We hope that customers never want a refund, but we respect that it is a crucial part of the customers return experience, Having said that, we are extremely proud to introduce the country’s fastest instant refund facility assuring our customers the most seamless refund experience. We have already noticed that close to 100% refunds take place within an hour and 85% within 30 minutes making this a highly reliable refund service for our customers.”
In recent months, the battle in ecommerce has been largely about logistics and how quickly companies can deliver the products to its customers. With Snapdeal being the first to introduce the automated refund service in order to satisfy its customers, will other ecommerce giants also look to follow suit?
