With GST just a month away, sellers and ecommerce players are busy aligning their businesses to fit the new tax rules and regulations. On-sale Snapdeal has devised a plan to make its platform GST ready for its vendors.
The home-grown etailer has not only started making changes to its Seller Panel but is also helping sellers to transition from pre to post-GST period to meet all the regulatory requirements.

Here’s what Snapdeal is doing:

  • Snapdeal’s seller support team is helping vendors to enter their GSTIN number and signature in the Seller Panel
  • Modifications are being made to customer invoice formats, commission invoices to sellers, and taxation reports. This would help sellers while filing tax returns
  • Work is also on to provide ‘view or edit’ options on applicable HSN codes and tax rate for all listed products
  • Snapdeal is also training its vendors under GST Guru initiative
  • The GST training program includes guidance by professionals, webinars, weekly newsletters, and other training materials
  • Cataloguing system, order processing, and ERP systems are also undergoing major overhaul

What about other ecommerce players?

Be it Amazon, Shopclues or Flipkart, each have their own set of concerns regarding GST. Nonetheless, the work on making their platforms GST compliant has started because July is not very far away.
While Amazon is keeping a close watch on all the developments, Shopclues is waiting for more details to come in. Amazon introduced ‘A-Z GST Guide’ program for sellers in March this year.
Flipkart has applied for a licence to become a GST Suvidha Provider (GSP). They rolled out GST Genie to clear out all confusion related to taxes in February 2017. In addition, the etailer started preparing for GST much in advance by modifying its ERP systems and giving GST training in September 2016 itself.
Looks like Amazon and Shopclues are a little behind, as far as preparing their platform for GST in concerned. Let’s hope the changes are in place before July 1st 2017.
