Burger King is all set to launch its franchise in India, albeit without beef and pork, in order to respect the religious practices of Hindus and Muslims that make up most of the country’s population. They will be offering Chicken Whopper, Vegetable Whopper and Mutton Whopper at its retail outlet in Delhi, but before they open shop, Burger King has decided to go the e-commerce route and launch an offer exclusively on eBay India.
As a part of a promotional gig, Burger King India has launched the ‘eBay Whopper Shopper’ that kicks off today, and will be on till November 5. The company is letting one pre-book a burger of their choice, which can then be redeemed on November 9, the day Burger King’s first outlet opens for business in South Delhi. Additionally, all voucher holders will get a t-shirt free along with their burgers. The voucher will only be valid on November 9 and one user is eligible to pick up only two vouchers.
This trend of exclusively beginning business on e-commerce sites by the food and beverage industry is on a rise. Recently, we even saw Coke exclusively launching its new drink Coke Zero exclusively on Amazon India, before hitting retail stores across India. Even the automotive industry understood the growing importance of e-commerce trade. Mahindra started pre-bookings of the Scorpio on Snapdeal for the price of Rs 20,000. Once you pre-book the SUV online, you had to just go to a Mahindra dealership to pay the rest of the money on the date of launch.
Meanwhile, Burger King plans on opening 12 outlets in India over the next two to three months, with six in Delhi and six in Mumbai. The company is also eyeing additional locations in Pune, Chennai and Bangalore.
